01 — At a glance

What sets this motor apart.

This motor communicates over RS485, a wired bus protocol used for decades in building automation. Each motor has a unique address on the bus and responds individually or as part of a group.

Communication is two-way: the system knows the actual position of each blind at all times, without going through a radio or a cloud gateway. That is why it is the usual choice for integrators working with Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI or ELAN.

Somfy places it in its SDN network, compatible with the animeo IP solar management system and with Power over Ethernet through its PoE gateway.

  • Addressable RS485 bus

Each motor has its own address. Individual or group control, without radio.

  • Two-way communication

The system knows the actual position of each blind at all times.

  • Direct third-party integration

Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI, ELAN and any system that accepts RS485.

  • Power over Ethernet option

An SDN PoE gateway powers and controls up to four motors over a network cable.

  • 47 dB

Designed for Silence range, like the other Sonesse 30 models.

  • Interchangeable head

White included, grey and black available. Slim head to reduce the light gap at the top of the blind.

03 — Which blinds

The right blind for this motor.

21 1/2 in

Blind width

This motor requires a blind at least 21 1/2 in wide.

Below this width, the motor does not fit in the aluminum tube the fabric rolls onto.

It shares the exact dimensions of the Sonesse 30 Zigbee 24 V: same body, same length, same minimum width. Only the communication method changes.

What to consider before choosing

  • No remote works with this motor. It has neither RTS nor Zigbee. Control goes through the RS485 bus, a DecoFlex SDN keypad or a third-party automation system. An RTS receiver for SDN is available to add radio control.
  • Commissioning requires an RS485 configuration tool, which assigns addresses and sets the limits. This is not a motor you program with a remote on site.
  • This motor is meant for integration projects: high-end automated homes, offices, hospitality, healthcare, education. For an ordinary home, a Zigbee or RTS motor meets the need with less complexity.
  • The 24 V power supply requires a wall adapter or a power distribution panel, like the other wired motors in the 30 series.

05 — Frequently asked questions

What customers ask.

Is there an RS485 blind motor?

Yes. The Sonesse 30 RS485 24V communicates over a wired RS485 bus, the protocol used in building automation. Each motor has a unique address and responds individually or as part of a group.

Which automation systems is it compatible with?

Any system that accepts RS485: Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI, ELAN, as well as Somfy's animeo IP solar management system. Communication is two-way, so the system knows the actual position of each blind.

Can it be controlled with a remote?

Not directly. This motor has neither RTS nor Zigbee. Control goes through the bus, a DecoFlex SDN keypad or a third-party system. An RTS receiver for SDN can add radio control if needed.

How is it programmed?

With an RS485 configuration tool that assigns addresses and sets the limits. This is not a motor you program with a remote on site.

Can it be powered over a network cable?

Yes. An SDN PoE gateway powers and controls up to four motors over an Ethernet cable, which greatly simplifies the wiring of a commercial project.

What kind of project is it suited for?

Integration projects: high-end automated homes, offices, hospitality, healthcare, education. For an ordinary home, a Zigbee or RTS motor meets the need with less complexity.

Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?

Yes. Le Gars des Stores serves the West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval and the Eastern Townships (Sherbrooke, Magog); elsewhere, depending on the project. We handle measuring, made-to-measure ordering, installation and programming.
