On the West Island, decks, sunrooms and patio doors live outdoors from May to October. A motorized outdoor solar shade with side channels (Zip Track) blocks sun before the glass, helps keep mosquitoes out at the sides, and retracts into its cassette when you do not need it. We are in Beaconsfield: this is our home turf.
An indoor shade filters light that already entered. An outdoor shade stops much of the heat before it crosses the glass. On a south or west façade in Pointe-Claire or Kirkland, July comfort is clearly better.
With side channels, the fabric stays engaged: it flaps less in the wind and closes the sides of a deck better. Exact wind resistance depends on size and system; we confirm at the measure. We often pair with a motorized screen on gazebos.
A large outdoor shade is almost always motorized: too wide and too exposed for comfortable manual use. Somfy or a sized motor depending on width. Control by remote or app.
